Working to Protect, Preserve and Enhance Our Marine and Coastal Environment

Municipalities United for Sustainable Seas

KIMO is an international network of coastal municipalities working together to protect the marine environment and support healthy, resilient coastal communities. We bring municipalities together to share knowledge, identify common challenges and develop practical solutions that make a difference locally and influence change nationally, regionally and internationally. KIMO represents the interests of its members in European and international decision-making processes, including through engagement with the EU, OSPAR, HELCOM, the Bonn Agreement and the North Sea Commission. We also develop and participate in projects, conduct research, produce guidance and share best practice, helping members turn knowledge into action. Our work focuses on preventing marine pollution and reducing its impacts, with the 2026–2030 Strategy prioritising marine litter, chemical pollution and pollution from maritime activities. Through advocacy, partnerships, knowledge-sharing and practical action, KIMO gives coastal municipalities a stronger collective voice and helps drive positive change for our seas and coastal waters
